Sachsenhausen

•May 16, 2009 • 1 Comment

I was going to make a blog with me in it. But even after seeing such sites in my teens, I was to overwhelmed. The tears are still flowing hours after my visit. I have much to say about Sachsenhausen. But for now I will let the pictures tell the story. After 15 years since last visiting concentration camps, Sachsenhausen brings back so many memories I will never forget nor want to. Right now I need time to process all the things I saw again as if it were yesterday. So I will let the pictures tell the story.

Day two of school

•May 5, 2009 • 1 Comment

I think I am over the jet lag which is great. Elmo is still a little out of it but he is a monster so it is to be expected. We had a pizza for 2.50 and enjoying some David Bowie. German school is ok every day it is getting better. The weather has been on the grey side with light rain however, the weather says we will get some sun. I hope so as it is colder than one would hope but I am in Berlin and have been here in the winter so this is not so bad.

School is better than when I was in High school, in regards to my germany class. Elmo goes with me and he has picked up a bit a german as well. We have not made any friends yet but thats ok. Elmo and I our a pair of our own. I will post more pictures on the weekend when we have a chance to relax a bit more.
After class I need a nap as my brain feels overloaded. So we get a late start on living in the evening. Not a bad way to live.
I will also take some pics of school. I think we have our sea legs. So Ahoy Mates and much love to all in the states.

I TRIED TO GET LOST BUT I DID NOT WORK.

•May 3, 2009 • 1 Comment

So on Saturday, I thought I would try to get myself lost.  It did not work. I found a sbaun stop closer to my house which takes me anywhere I want to go. I tried to ride the trains randomly then just walk around till I found another station.  Unless you ride out to the outskirts of town I do not see how you can get lost even if you do not  speak German, or English.   Elmo says he would be lost with out me but he is a monster so it’s ok.

So in trying to get lost I ended up at a really cool recored shop.  Yes I found the last record before berlin. Station to Station for 10 euros. It appears to be from 1976 so I think I found the original press in good condition. They did not have any of the Berlin trilogy, however Station to Station was what sent Bowie over the edge and placed him in Berlin.

How cool is that I had no plans on finding anything so great and it came to me.  To quote bowie “Here are we, one magical moment, such is the stuff From where dreams are woven”.

I also randomly ended up at check point Charlie. I was not even trying to get there. From there I ran into something really wild.  The Reich Security Main office  where Himler organized the SS, from Berlin I have included a picture of some of the underground SS interrogation  cells.  After 1945 it looks like a empty structure but it was enough. I saw many pictures I have seen before to treble to tell if you have seen them before.ss-prison-cells2

I did not bring my laptop charger. So it has been a slow start to what I am doing. I bought a new one I can also make it work at home with the adapter so it’s not so bad of a purchase. I have much to share however it is late for me so here are 3 pictures. My Sbaun stop, the East Walk signal, and the tower which I really dig. I love East Berlin. Next time you make it to Berlin check it out. h101walk1east-tower1

We made it

Elmo and I have made it to Frankfurt, We jumped on a train to the main train station. In about an hour Elmo and I will make our way to Berlin.  So far it has been interesting.  I fell on the train to the train station and  knocked down a lady.  Good way to start off the trip.  It worked out ok Elmo and I feel like we have never left. I still remember the train station from my trip with Devora. It is not winter but feels cold not as cold as the last.

I wish  I was able to put into words all the emotions running in my head.  I already love it here. It feels like a third home after LA and Las Vegas.  I have about a 4 hour Ice train to Berlin.  I will relax and enjoy.  More to come.  The smile on Elmo’s face says it all.
